A Lieutenant is a naval rank equivalent to an army Captain in seniority. A Lieutenant is typically senior to a Sub Lieutenant and junior to a Lieutenant Commander. Lieutenants are addressed by rank and name, thereafter by subordinates as "Sir" or "Ma'am". The rank is usually abbreviated to "Lt." or "LT".
